SuSE Linux 9.2 Professional can be installed over our local network via NFS. You can find
bootdisks at
math.iu.hio.no/pub/suse-9.1-bootdisks/boot/ and DOS utilities to make
these disks at
math.iu.hio.no/pub/suse-9.1-bootdisks/dosutils/. math.iu.hio.no accepts
anonymous ftp login. You may use anonymous or ftp as the user and your
e-mail address as your password. Remember to read the README files in these directories.
I have also an iso image for creating a boot CD for SuSE 9.1. The file bootcd.iso is 22 Mb large.
You can get this from
math.iu.hio.no/pub/suse-9.1-bootCD-iso/bootcd.iso and a README file from the same directory. In this case you will not need to create the boot floppies.
See the documentation for your CD burn program for burning details.
WARNING: I have not tested the installation with this bootCD. I have however burned a copy with cdrecord on Linux, and it works perfectly.
With cdrecord
I used:
cdrecord -v -eject speed=8 dev=0,0,0 boot.iso
You have to change the scsi device number to your own set-up.
NFS installation
The correct setting when you install SuSE via NFS is
NFS-server: 128.39.89.39
Directory on server: /iu-nfs/suse
[Source package directory on server is: /iu-nfs/suse-source ]
The gateway on the 128.39.74/75.0 net is 128.39.74.1. If you are on the 128.39.89.0 net, you don't need a gateway.
You may of course also use NFS as the installation source medium (you set this in YAST2) on an already installed system. Then you don't have to run around looking for the DVD's -:)
FTP installation of SuSE 9.1
You may use math.iu.hio.no for an FTP installation (here you don't need to be on the local network). The ftp-server is math.iu.hio.no and the current distribution is located at /pub/suse-9.1-1/. Note that the source code packages located on the second DVD are not
avaliable for FTP installation yet. Most people will not need these packages.
ISO IMAGES ARE NOT AVAILABLE ANY LONGER
You can download iso-images for the SuSE 9.1 Professional distribution from math.iu.hio.no at
The server accepts anonymous ftp.
SuSE Linux 8.2 Professional can be installed over our local network via NFS. You can find

I have also an iso image for creating a boot CD for SuSE 8.2. The file boot.iso is 20 Mb large.
You can get this from
